In this week-long workshop anchored in collaborative ritual, engaging body, attention, and imagination-centering physical/dance practices, and passionate and uncanny encounters with objects, landscape, and costume, we will “dialogue” with ourselves, one another, and everything to ask: how and why might we become more tender, more monstrous, more clairvoyant, more fluid; recognizing/uncovering our already multiple, hybrid, contradictory, messy, monstrous selves, groupings, world in the process.
Each fall we gather to exchange music, movement and ideas and to build our understanding of the complexity of what capoeira is today. Days include classes, rodas, and conversations facilitated by recognized leaders in the form. Highlighting the work of women teachers in capoeira, this event is open to all genders, ages, levels, groups and lineages.
The workshop will explore our relationship with fear and discomfort: how we meet it, make space for it, and develop greater trust in our capacity to experience it without being governed by it.
We’ll weave together learning and discussion, playful games and group activities, breathwork, movement to warm and prepare the body, and a guided cold-water immersion. Afterward, we’ll gather for hot tea, movement, lunch, and integration.
